Description
Gyrossuppe is a quick and easy, hearty soup inspired by classic gyros flavors, combining tender pork or chicken with peppers, tomatoes, cream, and aromatic spices for a rich, comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 1000 g pork schnitzel (alternatively chicken breast)
- 1000 ml vegetable broth
- 400 g whole canned tomatoes
- 400 g red bell peppers
- 150 g yellow bell peppers
- 150 g onions
- 200 g sour cream (or crème fraîche)
- 200 g cream (min. 30% fat)
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 chili pepper
- 8 tsp gyros seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 tbsp marjoram
- 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 4 tbsp neutral vegetable oil (e.g., rapeseed or sunflower)
Homemade Gyros Seasoning:
- 3 tsp sweet paprika powder
- 2 tsp oregano
- 2 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
Instructions
- Cut meat into bite-sized pieces.
- Heat oil in a large pot and sauté onions, garlic, and chili until fragrant.
- Add meat and brown lightly.
- Add chopped peppers, canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and vegetable broth. Simmer 15–20 minutes.
- Mix sour cream, cream, flour, marjoram, and gyros seasoning in a small bowl, then stir into the soup.
- Simmer for another 5–10 minutes until slightly thickened. Season with salt, pepper, and lemon juice.
- Serve hot, optionally with fresh parsley or crusty bread.
Notes
- Use either pork or chicken depending on preference.
- Adjust spice level by adding more or fewer chili peppers.
