Description

Räuberschnitzel is a quick and easy skillet dish featuring tender schnitzels with colorful peppers, mushrooms, bacon, and a creamy sauce enriched with tomato paste and aromatic spices.


Ingredients

  • 6 schnitzels (~150 g each, e.g., turkey or pork)
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 200 g mushrooms
  • 3 bell peppers (red, yellow, green)
  • 4-5 pickles
  • 100 g diced bacon
  • 200 g sour cream
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tsp thyme
  • 2 tsp sweet paprika
  • 400 ml poultry broth
  • ½ bunch parsley
  • 1 tbsp oil for frying
  • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Season schnitzels with salt, pepper, thyme, and paprika and lightly brown on both sides. Remove and set aside.
  3. Sauté diced onion, garlic, and bacon until fragrant.
  4. Add mushrooms, bell peppers, and pickles and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in tomato paste and poultry broth, bring to a simmer.
  6. Add schnitzels back to the pan and cook for another 10 minutes.
  7. Stir in sour cream and cook until heated through. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

  • Use turkey or pork schnitzels depending on preference.
  • Serve with rice, noodles, or potatoes for a complete meal.
